The Puffing Billy Great Train Race 2016 will be the 35th running of the annual event, where competitors race a route extending 13.5 Km’s through the hills and fern gullies of the picturesque Dandenong Ranges to beat the Puffing Billy train from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park.
The Great Train Race is continually a popular fun run event in Melbourne and is a great day out for both competitors and spectators, who may purchase tickets to ride the train to both enjoy the exquisite scenery and cheer on competitors as the train passes them.
Human Performance Development athletes have competed in many runnings of The Great Train Race, with Mark Richards placing 15th Overall in 2016 and previously winning the Junior (U20) race.

The Great Train Race is organised by Puffing Billy Railway volunteers. All proceeds and any additional donations go towards the Puffing Billy Menzies Creek Museum Redevelopment Project.

Great Train Race 2016 – LOCATION
This event starts near the Puffing Billy Railway station in Belgrave and finishes in Emerald Park. Due to the volume of participants and spectators, parking in the immediate vicinity of the race start may be limited. Please allow adequate time to park and travel to the race area, and consider what you bring from your vehicle.
